*UPDATED: June 24, 2022*
For the first time in 50 years, the right to safe a legal abortions has been taken away. Row v Wade has officially been overturned by the supreme court. This gives each individual state the ability to decide the legality of abortions within it's boarders.
"The Supreme Court in a 5-4 decision on Friday overturned Roe v. Wade, the landmark ruling that established the constitutional right to abortion in the U.S. in 1973."
The laws themselves go further than ever to challenge Roe v. Wade, the Supreme Court’s 1973 ruling that established federal protections for abortion. This is an ongoing battle and while the news may be covering this less and less, the restriction to safe and accessible abortions continues to put people and families at risk.
This is a costly and irresponsible violation of our human rights.
In response to the surge of restrictive abortion legislation in the United States in 2017, the Momotaro Apotheca team spent time with a few individuals who were faced with tough a very difficult, yet very personal decision to seek an abortion.
Its message rings no less true today, as the Supreme Court debates overturning Roe vs Wade and taking away the guarantee of accessible and SAFE abortions across the country.
The collection of stories of real people who have had to make this choice, capturing a fraction of the emotion and grace they bear in the face of one of the most difficult choices one can make.
