Tonic Oil or Body Oil? - Topless Model in Bath

Tonic Oil or Body Oil: What's the Difference & Which One Do I Need?

After an entire year that’s highlighted the importance of taking care of ourselves, it’s no longer enough to focus on how our daily routines make our skin look or feel. We want multi-use products that protect our health, improve our immunity, and promote overall wellness as naturally and sustainably as possible. The good news is that we no longer have to choose between beauty and wellness, mindfulness or multitasking. But with new solutions comes more choices. And when it comes to body skincare, the lotion versus oil debate has been fraught with tension as we search for solutions for tight (and taught!) skin.

Between our much adored Tonic and the newest addition to the family, Body Oil, it’s clear we here at Momotaro Apotheca fall into Team Oil. Why you may ask. Well, oils are often a silkier, safer alternative to traditional moisturizers that are filled with fragrance, alcohol, petroleum, and other nasties you don’t want to expose your skin to day after day. Plant-based, cold-pressed oils are not only moisturizing, but reparative since the extraction process allows them to retain most of the vitamins and nutrients in the plants themselves which your skin soaks up. The outermost layers of your skin easily absorbs oils because they’re similar in structure to your own naturally produced sebum, or lipids. It may seem counterintuitive, but using oils can also help regulate your skin’s moisture barrier and prevents overproducing oil in the future, which may lead to congestion, even if you deal with chronically dehydrated skin.

Basically, oils lock moisture in all day, forming a protective barrier between your skin and environmental elements, which produces a visibly dewier, glowier effect than the standard body lotion. The golden plant-based emollients are the decidedly superior solution to replenishing the natural oils you may lose after bathing or exercising, and other environmental factors you may be exposed to.

We make this all-important skin defense accessible with an all-natural approach. It’s what the people want — and honestly, need. All of our oil-based offerings are organic, multipurpose, and infused with therapeutic botanical infused oils designed to help soothe, nourish, and rejuvenate. But which one do you need?

If you’re irritated & inflamed, then use Tonic Oil

WHAT IS IT a soothing Jojoba Oil based bath tonic and topical spot treatment infused with soothing essential oils known to ease discomfort and increase blood flow

ADDRESSES heals ingrown hairs, calms irritation, inflammation, and symptoms associated with pH imbalance and infection like vulvovaginal itching and or abnormal discharge

KEY INGREDIENTS sustainably sourced Jojoba Oil infused with Tea Tree Oil, Goldenseal, Cedarwood Virginia, Oregon Grape, and Sweet Orange

HOW TO USE  Draw a warm bath and dilute a few droppersful of Tonic into the tub for a body-balancing soak that moisturizes skin, soothe discomfort, and help prevent future irritation or infection

You can also apply Tonic as a spot treatment to prevent and heal ingrown hairs post wax, shave, or sugar.

WHAT MAKES IT SPECIAL Tonic is a cult favorite that shares some of the key ingredients found in our best selling Salve — specifically Oregon grape and Goldenseal. Both contain the alkaloid berberine, which has been shown to have beneficial antimicrobial and anti-fungal properties.

Use Tonic Oil in the bath or as a concentrated spot treatment

From elevating the mood, to reducing muscle tension and even detoxing properties, a warm bath can do wonders for the body, mind, and soul. (And the perfect opportunity to engage in forms of underwater pleasure with your partner.)

Throw in some aromatic Tonic for skin-softening benefits and sip on some Tincture tea to elevate your mindtime. The Sweet Orange is commonly used in aromatherapy practices to reduce stress and lift your mood but the natural antibacterial Tea Tree Oil and alkaloid rich Goldenseal Root help alleviate vulvovaginal irritation and itch related to infection, pH imbalance, and inflammation.

Use Body Oil post bath (& every moment until your next bath)

Lock in the moment and moisture with our (very new, very decadent) Body Oil blend of cold pressed Jojoba, Argan, and Sweet Almond oils.

Warm a generous amount of Body Oil in your palms and massage in broad upward strokes starting at your ankles and working your way up to boost circulation. Focus on tight or sore spots like your calves or neck, alternating rubbing your fingertips and the balls of your palm into the skin for a spa-like effect.

Deep hydration paired with a light scent grounded in Sandalwood, warmed with Seabuckthorn, and a bright endnote of uplifting Grapefruit gently awakens the senses as you deliver your daily dose of moisturizing fatty acids, collagen loving Vitamin E, and free-radical scavenging antioxidants. Who knew indulging yourself could be so healthy?

Honestly, though they're better together

Much like your facial favorites, body products can pack a far more potent punch when used together. Sink into a deeper state of wellbeing and protect your skin’s moisture barrier from everyday stressors. Soak in a Tonic bath and smooth on a generous amount of Body Oil while your skin is still damp to lock in the moment of repose and moisture. Don’t forget to light some candles for that golden hour glow from inside and out.

What if I don’t have a tub (or the time) to soak?

Mindfulness and multitasking aren’t mutually exclusive! If you don’t have a tub to soak in, you can always try a sitz bath. The word “sitz” is derived from “sitzen,” the German word for “to sit.” And this is precisely the idea—you sit in shallow water infused with soothing ingredients that can provide relief from pain or itching around your vulva and perineum. Sitz baths are particularly helpful for those struggling with bowel irritation or vaginal infection, and since Tonic is completely bodysafe there’s no worries about your symptoms worsening.

Allow an inch or two of water to rise on your shower floor and take a seat! Just make sure you properly sanitize your surfaces, so you don’t cause further irritation. You can also use a shallow bucket, or purchase a sitz bath designed to sit over your toilet.

If you don’t have the time to spend soaking (we hope you’re able to put aside some time for yourself in other ways), then use Tonic as a topical spot treatment. The jojoba oil base dilutes the soothing botanicals and essential oils, which makes it safe for irritated or inflamed skin, ingrown hairs, and razor burn. Just remember, daily rituals don’t have to take a lot of time, but  consistency is key.
