2022 has been a year of extreme and harmful regression. Reproductive rights have been stripped away, mass gun-violence has become a daily news headline, and marginalized communities fear for their future in this country. It’s been, and still is, a lot to process.
Watching decades of progress be completely and carelessly erased has been devastating to many, but not to all. As somber as this is, there are many people in our country that want nothing more than to bring us back to a time where people with uteruses only exist to bear children, the LGBTQIA+ community is criminalized, and white supremacy reigns. This was recently confirmed by the nearly 50/50 split we saw during the 2020 elections…and we all know how that ended.
So all of this brings us to now: the 2022 midterm elections.
We’ve heard the phrase ‘leave it up to the states’ more times this year than ever before. And if we’ve learned anything from this, it’s that our state level elections can hold tremendous weight in the rights we have and resources we can access. So take this just as seriously as you would a presidential election because it is, if not more so.
Let’s remember what will be on the ballot: the right to safe and legal abortions, gender equality and safety, LGBTQ+ marriage, and so much more. So make your plan to vote now.
