Spray It Everywhere: 5 Ways to Use the Hydrosol

Spray It Everywhere: 5 Ways to Use the Hydrosol

We know you know that the visual link between vulvas, fruit, and flowers are prevalent in cultural references and art history (looking at you, Georgia O'Keefe), but these tropes should not inform our physiological expectations READ: your vagina should not smell like roses.

Traditional vaginal care products found in the “femcare” aisle or are often prescribed to treat unrelenting symptoms are full of harsh ingredients and artificial fragrances that often do more harm than healing in an attempt to cover up natural scents and temporarily relieve discomfort and other issues people with vaginas deal with on a daily basis.

Despite these issues being extremely common, we struggled to find a natural alternative to help our bodies heal themselves. Under the guidance of several medical professionals, arduous research, and culling case studies, we discovered that fruit and flower extracts can help your body’s natural ability to relieve symptoms associated with these uncomfortable and unexpected vaginal issues.

Each ingredient serves a purpose in safely supporting your body in working the way it was meant to, naturally. And because we only use 100% organic, plant-derived ingredients, our products can be used for a myriad of purposes.

The Hydrosol, which is just a fancy term for “plant water” is composed of the water that is steam distilled with essential oils. When the steam from the distilled water passes through the plants we use (which includes Orange Blossom, Rose, Rosemary, and Lavender), it holds onto the oils from each ingredient. These essential oils are then scooped off the top of the steam and turned back into water, containing all of the plants’ properties.

The result: a soothing, moisturizing toner that can be sprayed—quite literally—from head to toe. With antiseptic, antibacterial, antimicrobial, and anti-inflammatory properties, our Hydrosol may be made of roses, but it has plenty of benefits that won’t just make you smell like flowers. Read on for five simple ways to incorporate the Hydrosol into your daily routine.

The antiseptic and antibacterial properties of lavender and rose makes the Hydrosol effective as a toner, facial mist, or make-up remover. Because the Hydrosol doesn't contain alcohol or other synthetic ingredients, you can use this toning spray multiple times a day without drying out your skin. Simply mist all over your face and continue with your normal routine, or spritz throughout the day for a midday pick-me up.

PRO TIP spray this in hard-to-reach places where you get body acne (like your back, or butt).

The rosemary distillate makes this spray slightly acidic, which helps regulate sebum and control shine on oily skin while the lavender helps soothe any skin irritation and control redness. For an even healthier complexion, the addition of rosewater provides antioxidants that help fight premature aging. Similarly, orange blossom is rich in antioxidants and has antiseptic properties that can help calm sensitive or problematic skin. It’s a hydrating astringent that helps close your pores to keep dirt and excess oils out, while letting moisture in.

In addition to the lavender, rose, and orange blossom’s skin-healing and exfoliating benefits, a hint of coconut and castor oil helps stimulate tissue growth so that a barrier can be formed between your irritated skin and the environment (like hot pants and humid weather, or a misfitted bra). Rosemary distillate works on the middle layers of skin, calming irritations, bumps, and roughness from the inside out.

PRO TIP Keep your Hydrosol in the fridge. The cooling effect of the spray makes the effect even more refreshing.

Hailey, now a regular Hydrosol user, used to mix Hydrocortisone and Ketoconazole cream (both of which were prescribed by her doctor)under her breasts and belly when her rashes turned into yeast infections when left untreated. She no longer has health insurance and was searching for some relief when she discovered the Hydrosol from a friend. “If I feel any irritation under my boobs or belly, I give it a couple sprays and literally the next day the irritation is cleared up! I also give it a spray in my panties to freshen up my face, my hair...literally anywhere I want because spraying it makes everything better.”

Spray a few pumps directly onto your scalp, along your hairline, under your arms, or in your pubic area as needed to promote healthy hair growth and prevent ingrown hairs. The natural alpha hydroxl acid found in the Orange Blossom can help exfoliate your skin or clear up dandruff without stripping it of its natural oils.

If you’ve got a dry or itchy head, the anti-inflammatory properties of rose water and lavender may make this Hydrosol beneficial for certain scalp conditions like psoriasis and eczema.

You can also use the Hydrosol all over your hair as a finishing mist. While there aren’t any studies on this, curly-haired people swear by rose water’s ability to calm down frizz and add shine without weighing down your strands.

Use our Hydrosol before, during, or after your workout or meditation routine. The initial slightly-peppery whiff of rosemary and orange blossom can help stimulate your senses for a more energized workout while the lavender end-notes help you stay calm and focused.

If you haven’t got time to shower after sweating, we recommend spraying all over your head and body after wiping away excess sweat with a towel. It’s antiseptic properties help rebalance sebum production and acts as an antimicrobial on skin, which helps prevent bacterial infections and skin irritation.

Because Hydrosol is an antimicrobial powerhouse, you can even spray it on your yoga mat or other workout equipment so you can rest assured you won’t be transferring that bacteria between you and your mat.

Spray a few pumps on your pillow to help promote a good night’s rest. Research suggests that lavender may be useful in treating insomnia and restlessness. It doesn’t hurt that the rose water and orange blossom may also help prevent frizz and add shine to that pretty head of yours while you sleep.
